Talk to me about a place where you can be yourself.

I鈥檝e been part of an internet community of friends for almost 25 years now. I鈥檝e made many lifelong friends and met my husband in that group, and even have a weekly podcast with three of them. It started as a message board for a box office prediction game, but it evolved into a group of friends. When I see any of them in person, it鈥檚 like we鈥檝e known each other forever 鈥 because we have.

Tell me about the biggest teachable or meaningful moment in your life thus far.

I would have to say motherhood. It is not what people say it is. I had this lovely Netflix show in my head and then when it happened, I’m like, WHOA! This isn’t what I thought motherhood was. I think the teachable moments were learning to really love yourself in every stage of your body. I think a lot of people say motherhood is the most beautiful part of your life, but they don’t really talk about all the heaviness and mental health challenges that come with it. You really must love yourself because this is something that not everybody can do and not everybody can deal with. I look at my son today and I say, 鈥淥h my God, I did that鈥 and smile.

What has been your biggest teachable or meaningful moment?

One of my biggest a-ha moments was reading an article about morning habits and routines. When I follow this routine, my days are almost always amazing. I later read Miracle Morning, by Hal Elrod, and it has helped me to refine and establish that routine. I start with silence and meditation, which helps to bring clarity and gratitude. Then, I exercise for 30 to 45 minutes. If that day鈥檚 exercise is a walk, I typically listen to a podcast at the same time. Once I cool down, I eat a healthy breakfast and I read a book while I do so. I close it out with a 20-minute journaling session. This morning routine sets the tone for the day and helps me focus.

If you were to win an award, what would your walk-up music be?

Into the Unknown from Frozen 2 鈥 I love both Frozen films, and I relate heavily to Elsa, who is an introvert who sometimes struggles to embrace her talents and abilities. Recently, I鈥檝e been pondering the mantra 鈥淐hoose the Bigger Life,鈥 and this song is about escaping your comfort zone and trying new experiences. It鈥檚 a great anthem for me where I am in this specific moment.

If you could talk about something for 30 minutes without preparation, what would it be?

I have a lot of trivia knowledge, and lately I鈥檝e been reading books and listening to podcasts about early British history, especially the Plantaget royal family. Their stories are like a real-life game of thrones (without the dragons, probably). I鈥檓 especially fascinated by the women in this history, including Eleanor of Aquitaine and Philippa of Hainault.

Do you feel connected here at GANNETT?

That’s a great question. I do feel connected in a lot of different ways. I have my original family at the local newspaper where I started and I’m still very connected to people that are still there or have moved on. But also, when I started working for 番茄社区 in 2018, I really became a part of a team, and we do a lot of regular fun activities together. I’m also part of several of our employee resource groups. I am the Co-lead for our Mentally Forward ERG and I have just found incredible connections with the people within the group. We have a daily chat that is very active, and we all support and help each other. Also, I am a member of Black Forward and love that daily chat as well, it鈥檚 extremely engaging and active. Overall, I love that we have so many avenues where we can connect with each other and find like-minded people who share some of our same sentiments.
